About Us

At Fat Beans Coffee Lab, our mission is to make high quality coffee approachable. We roast small batch specialty coffee to order and create a personal coffee experience for each customer. We combine the art of coffee roasting with the science of data driven results. Our love of coffee and desire to create a community inspired us to build this family business. We are continuing to learn and grow with each roast, and we hope to share a delicious cup with you along the way!  

By day, Bryan is a teacher and Julianne is a nurse. They have three young children, 2 sons and a daughter, so they both look forward to their morning coffee ritual!

Bryan’s Journey to Coffee Roasting

Bryan grew up in western Nebraska, where coffee mostly meant Folgers—or reheated Folgers. Because of that, I had a very one-dimensional view of coffee and avoided it altogether. Instead, soda was my caffeine of choice.

During their honeymoon Bryan and Julie took a trip to Costa Rica, where they had their first real taste of good black coffee. For the first time, they could actually identify different flavors in a cup, and it changed how they saw coffee entirely. Bryan and Julie were also fascinated by the culture surrounding it—how something as simple as coffee could bring people together in such a rich and meaningful way.

That feeling deepened when they traveled to Germany and once again saw the deep history and tradition surrounding coffee. What they had always thought of as just a bitter caffeine fix was actually a global experience, a craft, a ritual.

Bryan’s path to roasting started during the pandemic. he had been buying decent beans, but with the extra time at home, he wanted more from his morning cup. So, he started roasting my own beans—and suddenly, a whole new world of coffee opened up to me. The coffee he was making at home was the best he ever had.

For the first time, he wasn’t just drinking coffee—he was crafting an experience. And what made it even better? We could share that experience with the people around us.
